ALL-STAR SELECTION INFO Revised:
2007-2008 Winter League
|
Note that all Chino Valley NJB processes are considered evolving based upon past experience. We thank all parents and coaches who have shared their opinions in past years and welcome suggestions for future years. It is only by constructive feedback that we are capable of bettering the system.
Nominations: Each CVNJB coach is asked to submit a list of nominees, usually their top 1-3 players. Additional nominations are accepted for those divisions fielding 3rd, 5th, and 7th grade only teams. This is typically only the boys divisions as the girls historically do not have enough players to field two competitive teams. Four or even five nominations are accepted if a team happens to have an exceptional season and the coach truly believes the additional players deserve the nomination.
In addition each coach is asked to submit a list of who he believes to be the top 10 players in the league. This data will be used to support the selection process as detailed below.
Selection Process: Each All-Star coach submits his list of requested players to the CVNJB All-Star coordinator for preliminary approval. The All-Star coordinator is responsible for coordinating with the All-Star coach, other coaches, the CVNJB Player Agent(s) and the CVNJB Board to insure that all deserving players have been evaluated. If required, the All-Star coach may request an evaluation. The intent of the evaluation is to allow the top 10-15 players to get together and have their skills evaluated by the All-Star coach. The CVNJB Board realizes that it is not always feasible for each All-Star coach to have seen each team play throughout the regular season. NOT ALL NOMINEES ARE INVITED TO THE EVALUATION. It is the responsibility of both the All-Star Coach, the All-Star Coordinator, and the CVNJB Board to insure that the proper players have been invited. Most All-Star coaches have a rough idea of who the top 6-8 players are in each division. The intent of the evaluation is to assist the coach in rounding out his roster of 10 players. This is a subjective process and a coach is totally within his right to select an exceptional team player or role player over a more capable individual player. The CVNJB Board will also support a player not being selected due to feedback regarding parents which may be viewed as disruptive to the preparation process. It is the coach’s job to create the best basketball TEAM possible. All selections are then approved by the CVNJB Board which authorizes the All-Star coach to begin player notification.
Certification Process: Certification is complete when a player submits a report card and a birth certificate to verify grade level and age, respectively. If for some reason a player fails certification, the All-Star coach in conjunction with the CVNJB Board selects the next most eligible player. |
