CVNJB ROOKIE LEAGUE
2006-2007 Winter League
|
The Rookie League (previously called Clinic Division) of Chino Valley NJB stresses the fundamentals of basketball for 1st and 2nd graders. |
|
Rookie I (Beginning) Rookie I offers six weeks of instructional drills with no weekly practices. Players will be exposed to dribbling, shooting, passing, and playing offense/defense.
Players are split into teams based upon the school they attend and/or friends/coach they request at the time of registration. During the instructional phase, each team will rotate from station to station running specific drills (e.g., shooting, dribbling and passing) while learning basketball fundamentals. Controlled scrimmages will occur after several weeks of instructional drills.

Rookie II (Advanced) Rookie II offers eight weeks of advanced drills and controlled scrimmages. Coaches may opt to have a maximum of 1 additional weekly practice. Initial sessions will focus on dribbling, shooting, and passing but will quickly evolve to the art of basketball (i.e., offense, defense, and transition game) at all times reinforcing basketball fundamentals.
Players are split into teams based upon evaluations scores and the school they attend. Registration requests to play with friends and or for specific coaches will be evaluated but not guaranteed. The focus will be on team equality.
Scrimmages will be self-refereed and governed by Division 3 (3rd & 4th Grade) rules. They will be of a training nature but obvious violations (i.e., double dribble, traveling and fouls) and enforcement of specific Division 3 rules (e.g., defensive players must remain behind the arch) will occur.
