Team Banner (Rookie I, Rookie II, Divisional) Teams have the option of displaying a team banner along side their bench during games. A typical banner is a 3’ x 5’ sheet of vinyl or felt, airbrushed or printed, with team information. Banners are usually supported on a frame constructed of PVC pipe. Please be sure that the stand has padding which prevents damage to the gymnasium floor. Include on the banner player names and jersey numbers, Head Coach and Asst Coach names, sponsor(s) name, and of course your team’s name. See our website for a list of known banner vendors. Sponsors (Divisional, All-Net) Each team (except for those in Rookie League) is required to attain a sponsor. Participation is mandatory and allows the league to bring in additional cash flow. Sponsorship fees are considered a tax deductible contribution (Tax ID #33-0574593). See the website for the official sponsorship form. Each team sponsor receives an appreciation plaque and a listing on the CVNJB Website. Note that chapter sponsorships are available and afford the sponsor additional benefits. See our Sponsor webpage for details. A team unable to obtain an outside sponsor is still responsible for submitting the full fee. In this case we suggest collecting an equal amount of money from each player’s family to cover the cost. The sponsorship will be considered a “Team Sponsorship” and is refundable to the team if a business sponsor is attained prior to Dec 31st of the current season. Team sponsorships do not receive appreciation plaques. Uniforms will NOT be distributed until sponsorship money is received! Mail sponsor check(s) and forms to: Chino Valley NJB 3233 Grand Ave. #N PO Box 236 Chino Hills, CA 91709 If you receive additional team sponsors all but $25 of the fee will be returned to the team for pizza parties, player/coach gifts, T-shirts, shooter-shirts, etc. The retained portion is used by the league to purchase the sponsor’s appreciation plaque. It is REQUIRED that the money teams receive from additional sponsors be used for the team.
Uniforms (Rookie I, Rookie II, Divisional) Uniforms will be distributed prior to the first games but only AFTER attaining a team sponsor. Uniform sizing will be performed as part of the mandatory player evaluations. Uniform distribution occurs at the local coaches clinic.
All jerseys are reversible meaning an entire division will wear the same color. The “home” team will wear the lighter color while the “visiting” team will wear the darker color.
Do not put player names on the jerseys. Some consider it unsafe under the Child Protection Act to openly display a child’s name. In addition, All-Star players will use their regular season uniforms and name placement will conflict with NJB requirements for All-Star uniforms. A player in this situation will be required to purchase, at substantial cost, a new jersey.
Pictures (Rookie I, Rookie II, Divisional, All-Net) A basic picture package (see website for details) is included with each player’s registration fee. Information and order forms are distributed to each coach in their team packet. The Team Parent should distribute picture packets just prior to Picture Day.
EVERY PLAYER MUST COMPLETE AN ORDER FORM ON PICTURE DAY. Even if the child is not ordering anything beyond the basic package.
A make-up day, for individual pictures only, will be scheduled. A player missing picture day will not be in the team picture.
Tell parents about Picture Day so they can schedule it in advance. The team picture may include players, coaches, team parent(s), and if applicable, your team banner. A detail schedule indicating each team’s time slot will be provided to your coach and posted on the website. Communicate the date and time with your team and be early!
Food and Drink in the Gyms (Rookie I, Rookie II, Divisional, All-Net) We can’t stress this one enough! There have been instances where schools have complained about the mess left after our games. This could result in the school district rejecting our future gym reservation requests.
Check out this parent's message we received on this topic.
The Chino Valley NJB policy is as follows: Players - ONLY WATER IN THE GYM! Spectators - NO FOOD OR DRINK OF ANY KIND IN THE GYM!
Please help to monitor the gyms. Insure that this policy is upheld. Remind parents not to bring food or drink into the gym. Encourage your players (and siblings) to eat and drink their snacks outside the gym.
Most schools allow players to bring water to the bench, SOME MAY NOT.
Gatorade is NOT ALLOWED ON THE BENCH!
Make sure that post game snacks are distributed outside the gym.
Schedules (Divisional) Games are traditionally played on Sundays but may be on a Saturday if gym availability dictates. Schedules will be distributed to coaches and posted on the website as soon as available. Note that schedule release is dependent upon completing registration (so we know how many teams we have) and attaining adequate gym space (which has been known to change at the last minute).
The 10 game Chino Valley NJB schedule includes regular season and playoffs. Two teams from each division will qualify for a championship game which is a bonus 11th game. See our Calendar webpage for on overview of our winter season.
Playoffs (Divisional) The number of playoff games are dependent upon the number of teams in each division. The goal is to provide enough regular season games so that teams may be sufficiently ranked to conduct a meaningful playoff. The usual format is to conduct 8 regular season games and 2 playoff games (teams qualifying for the championship game get 3 playoff games).
Our playoffs have been designed with the intent of matching teams of similar caliber. The top 8 teams, based on regular season standings are typically placed in the Championship Bracket. Only these 8 teams have the chance to reach the Championship Game (the bonus 11th game). The remaining teams are placed, based on regular season standings, into Consolation Brackets of 4 teams each. Therefore a 16 team division will have one Championship Bracket and two Consolation Brackets. After the first round of games in week 9, the winners play winners and losers play losers in week 10 to conclude the season. Again, only the two teams from the Championship Bracket who win in weeks 9 and 10 qualify for the Championship Game in week 11.
Here is an example Championship Bracket and Consolation Bracket.
Under this format, the team with the worst record over the regular season will be in a 4 team consolation bracket against 3 other teams with losing records. The result being that one of those four teams will end the season with two wins and be a consolation bracket playoff winner. One of the other three teams will win their last game of the season.
Divisions with 6 or less teams have the situation where teams may play each other twice or more allowing sufficient ranking so that a playoff bracket is not required. The top two teams would automatically advance to the championship game.
See our Playoff webpage for detailed information as the season progresses.
The playoffs culminate with the Chino Valley Extravaganza, an all day event to showcase our championship games. Festivities include a coaches game, player introductions, play-by-play announcing, post game award presentations, cheerleaders, and raffles/prizes. In addition, games are usually digitally recorded and available for purchase at the gym on the day of the event.
See our Extravaganza webpage for detailed information as the season progresses.
Equipment (Divisional) The league provides each divisional team two outdoor practice basketballs. Most coaches require that players bring their own ball to practice. The three divisions use different size basketballs:
Div 1 Boys use a standard (High School, College, Professional) size (29.5) ball. Div 1 & 2 Girls and Div 2 Boys use an intermediate (Womens) size (28.5) ball. Div 3 Boys/Girls (and Rookie League) use a youth size (27.5) ball.
COACHES CONDUCT (All Teams) The Head Coach is totally responsible for the conduct of his assistant coaches, players, fans, and himself. Improper conduct on the part of the players, coaches, and/or spectators can result in warnings, technical fouls, ejections, and suspensions.
Read more about Coaches Conduct and the PENALTIES for inappropriate behavior on the Coaches Info webpage.
