Rookie League Winter 2007-2008 |
|
The Rookie League of Chino Valley NJB stresses the fundamentals of basketball for 1st and 2nd graders. Our Rookie I division is for beginning 1st and 2nd graders while Rookie II offers returning 2nd graders and more athletic newcomers (1st and 2nd graders) a more competitive environment as they ready for divisional play.
Rookie I (Beginning) Rookie I offers six weeks of instructional drills with no weekly practices. Players will be exposed to dribbling, shooting, passing, and basic offense/defense.
Players are split into teams based upon the school they attend and/or friends/coach they request at the time of registration. During the instructional phase, each team will rotate from station to station running specific drills (e.g., shooting, dribbling and passing) while learning basketball fundamentals. Controlled scrimmages will occur after several weeks of instructional drills.
Rookie I players receive an NJB jersey, a youth-size basketball, pictures, and a player participation award.
Rookie I players MUST attend the player evaluation in order to support team creation and be sized for a uniform. Failure to do so may result in players being "bumped" to the waiting list.
Rookie I sessions are tentatively scheduled for: DATES: Sundays (12/2, 12/9, 12/16, 1/6, 1/13, 1/20) TIMES: 8:30 am to 11:00 am LOCATION: Chino High School
See our Schedules webpage for scrimmage matchups.

Rookie II (Advanced) Rookie II offers eight weeks of advanced drills and controlled scrimmages. Coaches may opt to have a maximum of 1 additional weekly practice. Initial sessions will focus on dribbling, shooting, and passing but will quickly evolve to the art of basketball (i.e., offense, defense, and transition game) at all times reinforcing basketball fundamentals.
Players are split into teams based upon evaluations scores and the school they attend. Registration requests to play with friends and or for specific coaches will be evaluated but not guaranteed. The focus will be on team equality.
Scrimmages will be self-refereed and governed by Division 3 (3rd & 4th Grade) rules. They will be of a training nature but obvious violations (i.e., double dribble, traveling and fouls) and enforcement of specific Division 3 rules will occur.
In weeks 7 and 8 the Rookie II teams will play in our annual Rookie Challenge. Teams will be matched in a tournament format playing full games including official NJB referees and scores being kept on the gym’s scoreboard. Winners will advance to the championship bracket and the non-winners will advanced to the consolation bracket.
NJB headquarters will hold its annual National Rookie Tournament in early March. The winner of the CVNJB Rookie League championship game has the option of advancing (entry fee paid by our league) to the tournament and representing our league. This tournament is also open (for a fee) to all of our Rookie II teams.
Rookie II players receive a Chino Valley NJB uniform (jersey and shorts), a youth-size basketball, pictures, and a player participation award.
Players wishing to play Rookie II MUST attend the October 15th player evaluation in order to support team creation and be sized for a uniform. Failure to do so may result in assignment to Rookie I.
Rookie II sessions are tentatively scheduled for: DATES: Sundays (12/2, 12/9, 12/16, 1/6, 1/13, 1/20) TIMES: 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. LOCATION: Chino High School
